As deaf parents would be unable to provide sufficient support to a child’s reading needs, the aim of the programme is to provide additional home support to a child who has one or both parents who are either Deaf or hard of hearing.
The overall objective of the programme is to nurture the target age group of CODA into young confident readers, building their self-confidence into young independent readers and to grow their passion in reading. We hope to achieve a “Growth Mind Set”, nurturing and seeing a growth in their interest and building a young child’s confidence to become an independent reader. Volunteers act as buddies to these children, guiding them through weekly reading sessions through teaching them new words and explaining the meaning of those new words; in order to achieve the project’s objective.
